Nawton School Choir and Band
This year Nawton has been offering guitar and drum lessons in the mornings and the children have been making excellent progress. From these lessons, the children who have persevered and practised hard have been selected to form the Nawton School Band, which now lead the School Choir and Dance Group, and perform their own numbers. The standard of musical performance is excellent, and you would never know that all but one of our students have only started playing this year.
 

This year music has been a focus in our kura, and wow!  There have been so many children performing and showing their talent in music.

Our school choir has had over 90 students this year, and it has been awesome to see so many children coming and getting involved in performance music.  Choir practice once a week and and work towards performing at school events.  The focus is on performing with excellence and enjoying music, whilst being a part of a group who work together to make beautiful music.  We have lots of fun and laughs, and our performances have been top notch!

This year has been the first year of running a school band.  This came about through the perseverance and determination of children taking guitar and drum lessons.  Because of their awesome effort in practicing, a number of children developed their musical skill so much that we decided to put a band together to further develop their skills.  As a result, the school band, 'The Somebodies,' was formed.  They have practiced together everyday and performed at official store openings, school functions and community venues.  It has been so exciting to see how they have improved, and they are now performing complicated musical and vocal pieces, writing and performing original music, and are extraordinary musicians.  If you get a chance, come and check out their next performance!
